On October 8(UTC+8), SANY Renewable Energy successfully installed our self-developed onshore 15MW wind turbine, SI-270150, in Tongyu, Jilin Province.
This remarkable achievement set two new global records for the largest single-unit capacity and the largest rotor diameter for onshore turbines. Less than a year after the debut of the 15MW model at the 2023 Wind Energy Exhibition, SANY Renewable Energy has made significant strides in installation, accelerating China's wind power development.
The 15MW onshore wind turbine is a flagship product developed on the 12.X-16.X MW platform. It has an extended design life of 25 to 30 years, a rotor diameter of 270 meters, and blade lengths of 131 meters, with a maximum swept area of 57,256 square meters—equivalent to eight soccer fields. This larger swept area enhances the turbine's ability to capture wind on land, allowing a single unit to generate enough electricity to power 160,000 households for an entire year.
Behind the creation of this unprecedented onshore "giant" is SANY Renewable Energy's collaboration with the entire upstream and downstream industry chain to break through technical boundaries, ensuring reliability from the source through advanced verification processes.
The SI-270150 wind turbine meets stringent international standards and entire lifecycle reliability requirements. It incorporates lightweight design and intelligent load reduction technologies, which lower the overall load and facilitate long-distance land transportation. The drive train features a dual TRB integrated main shaft support system that ensures high load-bearing capacity and stability. Additionally, the verified dual-transformer-in-nacelle technology reduces cable usage and land acquisition costs, resulting in a highly economical wind power product.
As the first company to launch a 15MW onshore wind turbine, SANY Renewable Energy prioritizes the safety and reliability of the turbine throughout its lifecycle. By implementing a multi-tiered testing approach to validate technical feasibility and product reliability, SANY uses experimental data to optimize and iterate design, refining digital simulation models to instill a "reliable" gene at the source. In the future, the prototype of the 15MW wind turbine will undergo over a year of operational testing in an experimental wind farm to thoroughly verify the reliability of components and the complete system under actual working conditions.
The successful installation of the onshore 15MW wind turbine marks another milestone in the development of large-scale wind turbines in China and represents SANY Renewable Energy's successful practices in design, research, and testing in the megawatt sector. Looking ahead, SANY Renewable Energy will continue to drive technological innovation with new productive forces, creating high-reliability, highly adaptable smart turbines to support the high-quality development of global wind resources.
