Sany Renewable Energy Successfully Installs First Batch Hybrid Tower Project for SI-242 Series Featuring 180m Tower

On February 10, the Rizhao Wanghu Wind Farm—the first batch commercial project of Sany Renewable Energy's SI-242 series equipped with a 180‑meter hybrid tower—was successfully installed. This marks another milestone in the large-scale, multi‑scenario application of the SI-242 series wind turbine, the industry's first onshore full‑site adaptive model unveiled by Sany Renewable Energy at Wind Energy Expo 2025. The achievement follows the commissioning of its first batch project in the mountainous region of Huaihua, Hunan.


Located in Wulian County, Rizhao City, the Wanghu Wind Farm experiences an average annual wind speed of only about 5 m/s, characterizing it as a typical low‑wind‑speed, high‑wind‑shear area. After a comprehensive evaluation of wind resources, turbine features, and economic viability, the Sany technical team selected 20 units of the SI-242 series 6.7 MW model—specifically tailored for low‑wind‑speed conditions—featuring 118‑meter blades paired with Sany’s self‑developed 180‑meter ultra‑high hybrid tower. This configuration set new records in Shandong Province for both hub height and blade length in wind power projects.


This “golden combination” of a high tower and long blades extends the wind capture reach of the turbines to higher altitudes where wind resources are more stable and abundant. Empowered by Sany Renewable Energy's intelligent control technology, the turbines achieve adaptive control based on real‑time loads, dynamically optimizing operational strategies to enhance both power generation efficiency and reliability.


The 180‑meter ultra‑high hybrid tower used at the Wanghu Wind Farm was independently designed, manufactured, and installed by Sany Renewable Energy's technical team. Adhering to a consistent technical philosophy, it ensures native compatibility with the SI-242 series wind turbines in terms of structural dynamics and control strategies, delivering a synergistic effect of “1+1>2.”


“With self‑developed wind turbines, self‑made hybrid towers, self‑performed construction, and our proprietary solutions, we not only achieved efficient, high‑quality project delivery but also ensured deep integration between the turbines and the operating environment,” said Xiao Zhiwen, Project Manager of Sany’s Wanghu Wind Farm, in an interview.

It is reported that once the project is connected to the grid, the estimated annual on‑grid power generation is expected to reach 340 million kWh. From the hills of western Hunan to the plains of Qilu, Sany Renewable Energy’s SI-242 series turbines—with their advanced technical configuration, outstanding environmental adaptability, and intelligent operational capabilities—are painting a vivid picture of green energy across China’s vast landscape.
